New construction of an automated small parts warehouse and an automated pallet warehouse for KraussMaffei Technologies

03.08.2021

KraussMaffei Techologies, the world's leading manufacturer of machines and systems for plastics and rubber processing, is currently building a new plant in Parsdorf near Munich and is planning to restructure its entire intralogistics in this context.

In the competition, HÖRMANN Logistik, together with its SAP/EWM partner SALT Solutions, was awarded the project by KraussMaffei Technologies due to a smart concept and a convincing overall package. The implementation order includes an automated small parts warehouse (ASW) and an automated pallet warehouse (APW) with conveyor connection, order picking stations, tower storage for sequencing, the complete automation technology and warehouse management/material flow controls with SAP/EWM.

Delivery of small parts

At the goods receiving area (WE) the small parts delivered externally in cartons and shipping bags are manually unloaded and placed on conveyor systems. After that the goods receipt process is carried out. A conveyor belt transports the cartons and shipping bags to the repacking stations, where the items are repacked into empty containers and insert boxes, and subsequently stored in the ASW. There is another workstation in front of the miniload loop that combines identical container contents into one container, providing the possibility to increase the fill level

Delivery of parts on pallets and skeleton containers

Parts and assemblies for machine assembly are delivered to the goods receiving area on one-way, industrial and half pallets. They are placed on one of three feed roller conveyors. At the repacking stations these items are transferred into provided wire mesh boxes and onto Euro pallets, transported to the APW and stored. A weight and contour check, as well as a fork clearance and board check, ensure that only correct load units are stored. In case of overweight or oversize, the load unit is discharged to a manual workstation where it can be checked and corrected.

Pallets with small parts for the ASW are also transported to one of the repacking stations, resorted into containers and then stored in the ASW.

Order-related picking of small parts and articles on pallets

At a total of nine goods-to-man picking stations, the items from the ASW and APW are picked for assembly on an order-related basis. The order-picked goods required for one machine are then transported to the destination assembly station.
