German AI Startup Brain4Data Cooperates with Oracle for Generative AI Service

10.04.2025

Brain4Data uses Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Generative AI Service and Oracle Database 23ai to add generative AI capabilities to its digital assistant for small and medium-sized businesses.

Brain4Data, one of the fastest growing AI startups in Germany, uses the Generative AI service from Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and Oracle Database 23ai to power Fred, its AI-driven digital assistant for small and medium-sized businesses. With the help of Oracle AI, Brain4Data has been able to simplify operations and reduce costs for its customers, while adding generative AI capabilities to Fred that boost its performance and improve the user experience.

Launched in 2021, Fred is designed to help small businesses search for information and automate basic tasks that support business functions such as customer management, project and workforce planning, sales support and financial reporting. Fred is provided as a managed service that integrates with customers' business applications via an API. In Germany, it is particularly popular in the construction, manufacturing and logistics sectors. Brain4Data has chosen OCI and Oracle Database 23ai to add generative AI capabilities to Fred to further expand its success and improve usability and accuracy. This enables the company to use large language models (LLMs) and expand the use of internal customer data.

»The OCI Generative AI service provides us with a robust, flexible AI development and training platform that has enabled us to quickly add LLM and generative AI capabilities to Fred,« says Jan-Peter Meyer, Chief Technology Officer, Brain4Data. »After just a few months of using OCI, Fred was able to answer more than 80 percent of customer questions with a high degree of accuracy, providing customized information and context to our customers, just like one of our employees would.«

Brain4Data uses the OCI Generative AI Service to seamlessly integrate Fred with commercial LLMs and add generative AI capabilities such as text generation, summarization and semantic similarity tasks. In addition, Brain4Data utilizes Oracle Database 23ai's AI Vector Search for Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), which allows private searches in a customer's unstructured data - such as images and PDF documents - and private business data to be securely combined. This has enabled Brain4Data to increase the accuracy, efficiency and security of Fred.

Meyer continued, »Critical to Fred's success is the ability to leverage individual customer data - including vast amounts of unstructured data typically stored as PDF files in smaller organizations - to fine-tune responses and improve relevance to customers. Oracle Database 23ai provides us with this capability, allowing us to store multiple types of customer data in a single converged database. This has helped us to simplify operations and reduce costs for our customers as we have fewer databases to manage and less data to move.«

»With OCI and Oracle Database23ai, Brain4Data was able to quickly and securely develop Fred into a fully-fledged AI agent, scalably and at low cost. This enables Brain4Data's customers across Germany to leverage the power of AI to achieve new levels of efficiency and productivity,« said Thorsten Herrmann, Senior Vice President and Country Leader Germany at Oracle. »With Oracle, Brain4Data can increase value for its customers faster than ever before.«

Brain4Data uses OCI to host all customer data locally in Germany to meet data security and data residency requirements. In addition, OCI provides Brain4Data with compute resources that enable the company to more efficiently meet the latency and performance requirements of Fred's service and dynamically scale the service to new market segments as business needs change.
