inconsoWMS X controls new logistics center of dm-drogerie markt in Weilerswist

Highly flexible warehouse management and control solution of inconso AG is operational
In its new logistics center in Weilerswist, dm-drogerie markt has gone operational with the highly flexible warehouse management and control solution of inconsoWMS X from inconso AG.
In Weilerswist south of Cologne, dm has set up one of the most modern logistics centers in Europe. The services of the previous distribution center for cartonized goods in Weilerswist and the Meckenheimer small parts distribution center nearby were consolidated. dm-drogerie markt already uses the solutions from the leading supply of consulting and software solutions for logistics in Germany in the existing distribution centers. In the process of setting up and starting operations of the new distribution center, the system was migrated to a new release and a uniform interface for the material flow and the Pick-by-Light calculator was added.
Small parts are picked with the Pick-by-Light technology. As soon as the picking containers are standing in the picking area in the picking location, the communication with the PBL calculator occurs. The transport of the picking containers are set up by inconsoWMS X, which is also controlling the system utilization.
Like in the dm distribution center in Waghäusel, near Karlsruhe, the picked pallets for the carton goods are transported with an electronic hanging rail, which has wagons developed by dm-drogerie markt themselves. Thanks to the graphical dialogs in inconsoWMS X, these transport units are transformed into system led, intelligent pick mobiles. In order to be automatically led, they communicate per wireless LAN with the warehouse management system, with the integrated scales via a RS 232 interface and with the control of the conveyor technology.
For controlling the warehouse, the inconsoWMS X solution was installed on 100 PCs. 163 industry PCs are mounted on the wagons on the electrical hanging rail and control the picking of the cartonized goods. At the workstations in the goods receiving area, manual and automatic repacking lines, separation stations and quality assurance, an additional 200 industry PC are used.
„With all the highly complex and technical processes, the software was implemented and operationally used in two phases without a problem,“ said Joachim Lück, coordinator of the distribution centers at dm-drogerie markt. „The project was carefully prepared by inconso and success secured in advance through many tests. Our long-term cooperation has proven itself.“
dm-drogerie markt will be able to manage the processes more efficiently with the new distribution center and the service for the stores will continue to improve. The control of the complex combined distribution centers is especially supported by a function of inconsoWMS X solution which enables dm to create, modify and optimize approximately 50 different store-in and reallocation strategies themselves.
