The K.W. Bruun Scandi Group, importers of Peugeot in Sweden and Denmark, are investing in a major upgrade of their central warehouse facilities in Hedehusene outside Copenhagen as well as a brand new Swedish warehouse facility in Strängnäs outside Stockholm. Their subsidiary, K.W. Bruun Logistik A/S, which stocks and distributes all spare parts for Peugeot in Denmark and Sweden, has entered into an agreement with Consafe Logistics regarding the delivery of a so-called Warehouse Management System (WMS) – an IT stock control system that will employ paperless picking and incorporate voice-controlled technology over the long term.
”The new advanced IT stock control system will mean that our warehouse will be able improve current performance and handle future growth without incurring additional costs”, explains Jan Korup, CEO at K.W. Bruun Logistik A/S.
The K.W. Bruun Scandi Group has experienced strong growth over the past 10 years and the Group expects growth to continue in the immediate future. The Group assumed control of Swedish imports in 1998, and Swedish sales have risen by 200 %.
”We have always responded to growth challenges by employing more staff at our warehouse facilities. With the new WMS in place, we can now allow technology to take care of a major part of stock control, thus enabling us to boost warehouse productivity using significantly fewer staff”, continues Jan Korup.
K.W. Bruun Logistik A/S expects that the new Astro WMS from Consafe Logistics will enable them to better exploit their floorage, boost warehouse efficiency (number of picks per hour) and improve quality (number of error-free picks) using fewer employees. The company’s warehouse facility in Hedehusene – following an expansion in 2003 – measures 9,800 square metres with an option of an additional 3,500 square metres, while the warehouse facility in Strängnäs is 4,000 square metres with an option of an additional 4,000 square metres. The facilities house 63,000 product numbers, employ a staff of 111 and handle a total tonnage of 9,800 tons of incoming and outgoing general cargo.
”The main reason for this investment is that the WMS will provide us with a great many more stock control options so that we can work with fluid locations and chaotic warehousing. Our internal controllers and inventory counting will become much easier and more precise and the system can support several future warehouses if the need should arise”, says Jan Korup, adding: ”We fully expect that the improved quality and efficiency will result in a repayment period of 36 months for our investment”.
K.W. Bruun Logistik A/S is planning to have the new WMS fully operational at the Swedish facility by May. ”We chose Consafe Logistics as our supplier following a round of tendering with eight suppliers. The Astro system offers us more refinements and the greatest amount of flexibility”, concludes Jan Korup.
The new WMS differs from traditional stock control solutions in that pick and goods handling can be based on a combination of different picking technologies, including Voice Picking. Voice Picking – or voice-controlled picking – enables the controller to receive picking instructions and sign for completed picking tasks online simply using a headset. Given that this only involves speech and hearing, one of the big advantages of the system is that it frees up the hands and eyes of the controller, who can work and improve safety.
”We are very pleased about the order as it confirms our position as the leading supplier of stock control solutions to the automotive industry, among many others”, explains Dan Hellström, CEO at Consafe Logistics A/S. Consafe Logistics A/S has supplied systems to FTZ Autodele & Værktøj A/S, SAAB Automobile, Volvo, Continental Sweden, Michelin, DAF Trucks, BKI Kaffe, Arla Foods, COOP, Netto, Carlsberg, Ferring, Alpharma, Ferring, Alfa Laval, Radiometer, and many more.
