21.09.2009

Health & Beauty chain Rossmann in Lodz (Poland) has awarded Vanderlande Industries a contract for the modernisation of an existing distribution centre.

Health & Beauty chain Rossmann in Lodz (Poland) has awarded Vanderlande Industries a contract for the modernisation of an existing distribution centre as well as the installation of a six-aisle miniload (AS/RS) automated storage and retrieval system with a total value of around Euro 7 mln. The distribution centre will become operational in 2010.

The Health & Beauty chain Rossmann, with around 19,000 employees and 1,490 stores, is the no. 3 Health & Beauty chain in Germany. With a turnover increase of around 18.1% in 2008 Rossmann is the strongest growing Health & Beauty chain in Germany. Despite the current economic situation it is growing rapidly, particularly in Poland. The number of stores in Poland is planned to grow from 365 today to 550 in 2012.

In the current distribution centre, order picking is manual in all areas. Because of the ambitious plans, there is a need for a future-oriented logistic concept. Key of the solution is a zone picking system with 60 zones. The products for the Rossmann stores are picked in totes from 5,000 flow racks supported by a Pick-to-Light system. The replenishisment in the flow racks is executed by 6 QUICKSTORE 3.2 miniloads (automated storage and retrieval systems).

The modernised and expanded distribution centre in Lodz will become operational early 2010 and will support Rossmann in reaching their ambitious goals.
