Smart pick module incorporates pick-to-light, voice & RF

Dematic Corp., supplier of logistics systems for the factory, warehouse and distribution center, has implemented a new order fulfillment system for Australian nutritional supplements company, Blackmores. The system incorporates pick-to-light, voice and RF picking systems to provide high productivity order fulfillment of fast moving full case and split case SKUs.

The entire order fulfillment system is powered by a single software platform called PickDirector. All of the picking devices, which include voice, lights, and RF, are managed and directed via the PickDirector software. Furthermore, the PickDirector software is integrated with the conveying and sorting system to provide optimized flow of split case order containers, and full cases.

Pick to light technology is utilized for the split case items. Voice technology is used to direct pickers in the full case pick areas. RF devices are used for put away and replenishment.

The new system allows the Blackmores to reduce order processing time, increase productivity, improve order/inventory accuracy, and provide real time order tracking. Typical daily volume is 22,000 split case items and 1,000 full cases that fill approximately 500 customer orders.
