Dematic Offers as first Intralogistics Supplier Thermographic Inspection

As first supplier in intralogistics Dematic offers thermographic inspection as preventive measure.
Special equipment and analysis know-how uncover hidden potentials for danger and protect plants from system failures and fires.
With the offer of comprehensive thermographic inspections for all electrical and mechanical warehouse components Dematic GmbH expands its spectrum of after-sales services with immediate effect. Using special thermal imaging cameras the specially trained engineers of the intralogistics specialist test, amongst others, cable connections, electrical installations cabinets and drives as well as transmissions, rollers and wheel bearings of mechanical plants for their proper working order. "Already an increased contact resistance due to improper cable layouts can result in shorts, system failures and fires", explains Hans-Jürgen Schwarz, Manager of Field Operations at Dematic. Thus, the thermographic inspection is an important preventive measure to eliminate sources of danger and avoid production downtime.
The thermographic inspection is a proven method, which for example is already used regularly in the high voltage technology. By transferring this technology to the requirements of intralogistics Dematic offers its customers a variety of sustainable advantages. The measurements are taken locally without operational interruptions. Examined are all potential places of damage and weak points. Similar to x-rays the recorded thermal images show particularly hidden interferences, which are not visible to the naked eye. The following assessment analyses the images,for example for effects in terms of corrosion, signs of ageing and wear, high impedance connections and defect motor windings. But also component overload, wrong belt tensions or faulty adjustments of motor brakes can be detected with the thermographic inspection. Results: Necessary repairs can be initiated early and planned cost-efficiently. Downtimes and larger damages to the plant can be avoided. And: "We are currently in discussion with the insurance industry" said Schwarz. "We assume that due to the decreased risk of damage, which the thermographic inspection offers, the insurance premium can be reduced."
