New distributon center for Cock's Vleeswaren

07.05.2004

Vanderlande Industries will build a new distribution centre for Cock’s Vleeswaren in St. Niklaas (Belgium). Cock's Vleeswaren supplies high-quality meat products to speciality and delicatessen stores

The new DC will enable it to handle growth in the numbers of orders and to further increase its service level. The logistics concept is based on the Vanderlande Industries Compact Pick System and consists of goods receiving, storage, picking and shipping. Totes with meat products are transported from reception to a storage area with 23,000 locations fed by 7 miniloads. Each miniload can carry 4 totes, ensuring a high throughput rate.

Picking stations are fed by the miniloads, and orders are prepared, weighed and placed in storage. For delivery the miniloads bring the order totes to telescopic truckloaders. The backbone of the system is the sorter, handling 4000 totes per hour.
