Participants Meeting 2017

Creating visions for Warehouse Management

On October 19th 2017, more than 60 representatives of national and international companies from the WMS industry met at the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML in Dortmund. Under the motto »warehouse logistics - creating visions«, with a focus on research and development, they informed themselves about current trends and innovative developments in logistics and in the field of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and discussed them in the World Café.

With presentations on the research areas of hybrid services such as Digital Design, Motion Mining and Augmented Reality in Intralogistics, the researchers of the Fraunhofer IML gave the participants an outlook on previously untapped potentials within the WMS industry. In the context of the Innovation Exchange, they highlighted the importance to meeting the challenges of digitalisation and investing in progress. The participants were able to experience for themselves how this progress can look like: current developments of the Fraunhofer IML such as the ergonomic, mobile and interactive load carriers for intralogistics »EMILI« or a showcase for the application of Augmented Reality for packaging made current research tangible. The message was: innovation instead of stagnation for the step into the future.

In addition, Thorsten Hülsmann, Managing Director of the EfficiencyCluster LogistikRuhr, and Björn Krämer, Head of Team warehouse logistics, informed the guests about the latest developments in the WMS database and events of recent months. Due to a new structure, five topics could be dealt with even more interactively in the discussion group this time. This included agile project management and software for microdeposits. Also the use of new technology in the context of chatbots for WMS was a major topic.

»It was an altogether exciting event, which was very varied and very dynamic thanks to different formats such as the World Café and the Innovation Exchange«, says Ralf Schränkler of SAP Deutschland SE & Co. KG.
