Smarter Routes, Fair Cost Allocation, and Real-Time Traffic Intelligence at Transport Logistic 2025

05.05.2025

EPG’s Greenplan is Changing the Game.

As logistics leaders gather in Munich, EPG showcases Greenplan, its route planning and execution solution for optimized costs, performance, and sustainability. With intelligent route planning powered by advanced algorithms, real-world traffic insights, and globally-unique features like Fair Cost Allocation and Fuel/ Charge Stop Optimization, Greenplan sets a new standard for leaner, cleaner logistics.

Innovating Logistics: New Fair Cost Allocation & Fuel Stop Optimization

Until now, dispatchers have relied on rough estimations to determine the cost of delivering individual shipments. But Greenplan is changing that. Its Fair Cost Allocation algorithm, co-developed with the University of Bonn’s world-leading discrete mathematics department, is the first in the world to precisely compute the financial and environmental costs of each shipment. This calculation improves financial planning, shipment assignments, and operational efficiency. Using cooperative game theory, the algorithm equitably distributes CO₂ emissions in addition to costs, providing full operational transparency for smarter business decisions within.

EPG has also developed a new solution for Fuel/ Charge Stop Optimization. As gas prices rise and providers diversify fleets with electric vehicles, decisions about when and where to top up the tank or battery matter. Prior planning helps drivers avoid long detours and high price zones, saving significant time and money. Greenplan considers fuel/ charge rates, provider contracts, detour length, and vehicle range to compare stations and pre-plan stops for low-cost, low-stress journeys.

Award-Winning Routing: Discrete Mathematics & Real-Time Traffic Data

Greenplan’s powerful approach to routing has won the solution numerous awards, including 1st place in the Amazon Last Mile Challenge, the PostEurop Innovation Award for overlapping districts, the World Sustainability Award based on UN development criteria, and the 2023 Best Product LogiMAT award. These honors are owed in part to Greenplan’s strong scientific partners.

Developed in collaboration with the University of Bonn’s world-leading discrete mathematics department, Greenplan’s algorithms plan with a precision that traditional routing solutions fail to achieve. EPG’s partner TomTom, a leader in advanced geolocation and traffic intelligence, provides critical data for these algorithms. TomTom’s real time traffic data updates every 30 seconds and its historic data reports flow speeds in five-minute intervals across 200-meter street segments. This allows Greenplan to predictively and dynamically adjust routes based on congestion patterns, road restrictions, and fleet-specific constraints like tunnel height, weight limits, and restricted access roads.

With real-time traffic insights, Greenplan helps fleets avoid bottlenecks, improve ETAs, and optimize routes with greater accuracy.

Proven Success: The Greenplan Advantage in Action

Greenplan’s impact is already evident. Sievert Logistik, a leading logistics provider exhibiting at Booth A5.426, employs Greenplan to streamline operations and improve service quality for its customers. By leveraging EPG’s adaptive Greenplan solution, the company has minimized costs while enhancing reliability, showing how data-driven solutions transform real-world operations.

With a focus on cost efficiency, on-time delivery, and sustainability, Greenplan helps businesses deliver more while doing less. Visit EPG at Booth B1.624 to see Greenplan in action and learn about the ripple effect of intelligent routing.
