Swisslog automates fresh goods warehouse for Bünting

16.09.2025

With today’s groundbreaking ceremony in Nortmoor, the Bünting Group, one of Germany’s largest and most advanced retail companies, begins construction of a state-of-the-art fresh goods warehouse. In collaboration with Swisslog, an international intralogistics expert and technology partner, a cutting-edge facility is being built on an area of 6,500 square meters, combining fully automated processes, maximum storage density, and advanced conveyor and refrigeration technology.

The core of the facility is a fully automatedshuttle warehouseincluding pre-zone robotics, distinguished by its performance and modular expandability. With 34,500 locations for small loads, the system offers maximum efficiency and flexibility for future volume growth, while ensuring that both goods movement and delivery processes are continuously optimized. The entire facility is managed bySwisslog’s SynQ WCS software solution, which precisely and seamlessly connects all systems, guaranteeing real-time transparency and process reliability.

»Together with Bünting, we are bringing technology exactly where it creates the greatest value: into the heart of fresh logistics,« says Sven Borghoff, Vice President Sales – Integrated Solutions EMEA Central, Swisslog. »From the very beginning, our collaboration has been defined by clear goals, consulting expertise, open dialogue, and mutual trust – that’s what makes this project special.«

The shuttle warehouse is complemented by state-of-the-art conveyor systems that enable consistently efficient goods movement and delivery. Manual steps are significantly reduced, storage efficiency is increased, and process reliability is ensured throughout. For the storage of temperature-sensitive goods, the system is designed to operate at constant temperatures between 0 and 2 degrees Celsius, meeting the highest standards for freshness and energy efficiency. »With this construction project, the Bünting Group is achieving another milestone in improving its logistics structures,« says Helge-Christian Eilers, Managing Director of Bünting SCM/Logistics. A centrally managed logistics system, including distribution and store supply, creates a future-ready solution.

In addition to technological advantages, the project also strengthens the regional labor market. Up to 14 new jobs will be created upon commissioning, with additional positions possible as the facility expands. From a regional perspective, the construction of the fresh goods warehouse also represents a significant contribution to economic development.
