PV Automotive relies on LFS 400

16.09.2008

The car parts retailer PV Automotive GmbH is currently extending their subsidiaries and warehouse sites.

The central warehouse and the currently six regional warehouses shall be managed via a central computer as well as one warehouse management system. Therefore, the company applies the flexible warehouse management system LFS 400 of the warehouse expert group Ehrhardt + Partner (E+P).

After the project realisations of the car part retailers Wessels + Müller AG and Eugen Trost GmbH & Co. KG, E+P strengthens their market position on the domain of car parts specialised trade. PV Automotive with approx. 1,400 employees at over 70 sites and more than 300 million Euros annual turnover is one of the leading companies in the automotive service business. Next to the automobile parts retail with more than 70 own sites, the company founded in 1922 also supplies car and utility vehicle shops, forwarders as well as gas stations and free car part retailers with a total of 170,000 different items. The internal transports are realised by external forwarders; customers are supplied with own vehicles. In order to optimise the flexible and prompt delivery to the subsidiaries and customers, the retailer of car and wear parts counts on efficient warehousing. “We have long time elaborated a complete logistics strategy for our company in an internal workshop in order to guarantee the optimal supply of the customers and our own subsidiaries on a long-time basis”, Thomas Torke, logistics manager of PV Automotive GmbH, describes the initial situation. In future, all seven warehouses of the car parts retailer shall be managed centrally via one software installation at the site in Essen. According to Thomas Torke, the objective of the software installation was “a reduced error rate, a high inventory accuracy, reduced costs and optimised stocktaking processes”. In the selection of a warehouse management system, the company decided in favour of the warehouse experts E+P and their system LFS 400. The group with headquarter in Boppard and their warehouse management system convinced the responsible with the successful project realisations at the car part retailers Wessels + Müller AG and Eugen Trost GmbH & Co. KG. At first, the warehouse in Bielefeld was taken into operation with LFS 400. Approximately 55,000 shelf storages as well as 2,100 pallet places are provided for the 26,000 items. The objective of the LFS 400 system integration was not only a higher warehouse output, but also optimised picking. The introduction of paperless picking supported by radio frequency replaces the picking with lists, which were in the past created by the enterprise resource planning. PV Automotive counts on radio frequency: with LFS 400 and the new radio frequency technology, in future, the processes will be time and route optimised.
