Electrical equipment wholesaler Löffelhardt invests in the future

13.10.2017

New logistics center facilitates further growth

Löffelhardt and viastore are working together to build a state-of-the-art logistics center in Schorndorf near Stuttgart.

Emil Löffelhardt GmbH & Co. KG, a medium-sized electrical equipment wholesaler managed by the fourth generation, supplies the electrical engineering trade and specialist retailers as well as manufacturing industries, authorities and administrations. The family-owned company has been growing continuously, however, there are no possibilities for expanding its logistics center in Fellbach near Stuttgart, Germany. Löffelhardt has therefore decided to set a milestone in its corporate history by relocating the company headquarters to Schorndorf, approx. 20 kilometers away from its present location, and building a new central logistics facility.

viastore was entrusted with supplying and installing an automated, rack-supported unit-load warehouse. It can accommodate 17,520 pallets, which are transported by eight viapal automated storage and retrieval systems. Large and voluminous articles such as control cabinets are stored here. In addition, the facility also serves as a supply warehouse for the five-aisle container warehouse with 91,520 storage locations for small high-turnover items, including control components and electronic products. 220 viaflex² type shuttles automatically store, transfer and retrieve these items. Products such as cable ducts or lamps are accommodated in an additional single-aisle automated tray warehouse for extra-long goods. The viadat warehouse control system from viastore SOFTWARE is used to manage the entire warehouse reliably and efficiently.

The construction of the new logistics center is Löffelhardt’s solution for the limited space available in the existing warehouse, and will create the necessary capacity. This will make the company more efficient and enable it to supply customers even faster and more reliably in the future. »In addition, the center is an investment in Löffelhardt’s future and further growth,« adds Rainer Rommel, partner and Managing Director of Löffelhardt. Completion of the new logistics center is scheduled for mid-2018.
