Logistik befindet sich weiter auf Wachstumskurs. Die Branche bleibt auch in den nächsten Jahren mit Wachstumsraten zwischen vier und acht Prozent jährlich ein starker Impulsgeber für die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung in Europa. Zu diesem Ergebnis kommt der aktuelle Branchenbericht der IKB Deutsche Industriebank AG. Vor allem Deutschland profitiert dem Report zufolge vom Logistikwachstum: Die durchschnittliche Wachstumsrate der Logistikbranche erreicht hierzulande in etwa das 2,5fache des BIP-Wachstums.

Dieser Trend bestätigt sich auch am Fraunhofer IML in der industrienahen angewandten Forschung zur Logistik. Mit sieben Prozent Wachstum gegenüber dem schon erfolgreichen Jahr 2005 setzte sich hier 2006 der dynamische Wachstumstrend konsequent fort. Dies entspricht einem Zuwachs des Betriebshaushaltes von gut 1,1 Mio. Euro. Nahezu zwei Drittel davon sind Industriemittel, die durch Aufträge aus der Wirtschaft erzielt wurden. Gleichzeitig stieg die Mitarbeiterzahl um rund fünf Prozent. Über diese hochqualifizierten Arbeitsplätze in einer Zukunftsbranche freuen wir uns angesichts des regionalen Strukturwandels ganz besonders.

Träger dieses Wachstums sind die technologische Entwicklung und eine immer noch zunehmende Internationalisierung. Auf Seiten der Technologie stehen IT-Anwendungen in der Logistik, und hier vor allem die Schlüsseltechnologie RFID, nach wie vor im Vordergrund. Das Zusammenwachsen von Logistik und IT findet in der Leitinnovation der Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, dem »Internet der Dinge «, seinen zukunftsweisenden Ausdruck. Durch die Verschmelzung von Information und Ware erfüllt sich ein alter Traum der Logistiker: Materialund Informationsfluss werden identisch und in Echtzeit beherrschbar. Auf dem Weg dorthin ist noch viel Forschungsarbeit zu leisten. In dieses Projekt sind unter Federführung des Fraunhofer IML mehrere Institute der Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft eingebunden.

According to the current industrial report of IKB Deutsche Industriebank AG the logistic sector is still on the road to success and with an annual growth rate between 4 to 8 % will remain a strong motor for Europe’s economy. Germany will benefit the most from this trend: The average growth rate in its logistic sector reaches about 2.5 times its GDP growth rate.

This tendency is also reflected by the applied logistic research projects of Fraunhofer IML. With a growth rate of 7 % - corresponding to a budget increase by approx. 1.1 billion Euros - compared to the successful year of 2005 this dynamical trend continued also in 2006. Nearly two third of this sum are industrial funds earned from business projects. At the same time, the employment rate increased by 5 % - an especially pleasant fact given the regional structural changes.

This favourable economic development is triggered by technological innovations and a still increasing internationalization. In the field of technology IT-applications in logistics and above all RFID as a key technology still play the most important role. The coalescence of logistics and IT is ideally reflected by the most innovative and forwardlooking project of the Fraunhofer- Gesellschaft, the "Internet of Things" The amalgamation of information and goods is the fulfillment of a logistician’s dream: Material and information flow become identical and can be mastered in realtime. However, there is still a long way to go and under the leadership of Fraunhofer IML several Fraunhofer institutes are going ahead.
