The textile industry and the WMS SuPCIS-L8:

14.10.2021

our customers from the fashion and textile industry particularly appreciate these module components of SuPCIS-L8!

A diverse and constantly changing product range due to short life cycles, seasonal innovations and peaks, the different sizes, colours and materials of the goods as well as different handling of hanging and lying goods require a maximum of flexibility and dynamic processes in warehousing for every company in the fashion and textile sector. Especially the product range poses new challenges to the logistical processes and procedures in the warehouse, which have to be mastered again and again. Therefore, we would like to give you a closer look at »typical« processes that (not only) our customers from the fashion and textile sector particularly appreciate in the SuPCIS-L8 warehouse management software: the returns management process that can be configured in SuPCIS-L8, our QA inspection module, the possibility of integrating a variety of automation solutions as well as the available interfaces for connecting »Radio Frequency Identification« technology (RFID).

Managing the workload with the right workflow

The various software modules of SuPCIS-L8 offer a wide range of functions - but it is the topics of quality assurance as well as the processing of returns that should be highlighted as an important module at this point. In practice, the SuPCIS-L8 QA inspection module supports and facilitates quality inspection with extensive functions and industry-specific configuration options. Special inspection steps can be linked on a process basis and placed in the appropriate sequence. In addition, the management of inspection lots and the generation of inspection orders are mapped. The connected ERP system transmits an inspection lot to the WMSSuPCIS-L8 with further information, such as the type and number of products to be inspected. The goods in question are then transported - before they are even available as stock in the WMS - to the »Quality Assurance« department, where they are subjected to the respective inspection procedure. Following the inspection, the WMS is either informed about which stocks can be released and thus managed and stored as stock in the warehouse, or the release is integrated in the WMS and the feedback is sent to the ERP or OMS.

In addition, a smooth returns processing is required. Our warehouse management system SuPCIS-L8 is also used here: based on the stored order and customer data, the returned goods can be easily identified in relation to the article and the previous delivery item. Quick assignment of the returned goods enables efficient returns processing thanks to the integrated search function. For example, by scanning the package number of the returned goods in combination with the display of product images, the correct item can be identified quickly and without doubt, as order-related properties such as customer name, sender address and order number are stored for each return. Subsequently, the integrity check and the usage decision are carried out. Depending on the result, the goods are then put back into storage, a more detailed QA process is initiated or the stock is corrected. Through synchronisation with the ERP system, processes such as triggering a credit note and stock availability can be carried out without any loss of time.

For improved user-friendliness(software ergonomics), the processes in returns processing and in the SuPCIS-L8 QA modules are supported by image display of the corresponding items and QA inspection tasks.

Real-time tracking and increased transparency in the warehouse

If you need support to track the goods along the entire supply chain in real time and to better monitor the in-house logistics processes, the connection of a "Radio Frequency Identification" technology(RFID) to our WMS SuPCIS-L8 is target-oriented. With RFID individual parts recording, the stock of goods is equipped with transponders. In the case of non-RFID-managed parts, the article is marked accordingly in the part number master of the WMS. The attached transponders and the integrated RFID subsystem make it possible here that the contents of the individual cartons are automatically recognised in the goods receiving area of the warehouse simply by passing through a tunnel with an RFID reader. In the event that the correct number of labels is not read or an incorrect label or part is detected, the carton in question is rejected for rechecking. If there is still an error, an individual part check is carried out after opening the carton. During this process, it is also possible to reprint missing or defective labels via SuPCIS-L8. The principle is also used as a picking check. In order to check whether all individual parts were actually placed in the container during the picking process, picked containers also pass through quick-read stations.

In addition, SuPCIS-L8 offers the possibility of documenting relabelling as a billable service that is documented in the system.

The integration of a wide range of automation solutions is also possible in this fast-moving industry. Whether in the area of shuttle warehouses, hanging and lying warehouses or the connection of mobile robots - our WMS SuPCIS-L8 offers available interfaces in this context to connect the various solutions and to design the processes in the warehouse in the best possible way. But especially in the case of automated solutions, it is important to plan accordingly, for example, the requirements for package restrictions - no B2B customer wants to receive a T-shirt of one colour in different sizes in different boxes, as otherwise the sorting effort would be transferred from the warehouse to the shop - and to bring the maximum system performance of the automation down to a common denominator.

It is also important, especially in this industry, to combine the different requirements of B2B, C+C and B2C in order to be able to handle all forms of delivery from one inventory with optimised but coordinated processes.

The overall result for the fashion and textile sector as a result of the implementation of SuPCIS-L8: users always have a complete and transparent overview of all processes and procedures in the warehouse. In this way, errors can be avoided, time saved and costs reduced. Previously unused potentials come to light that can be exploited in the best possible way and thus increase efficiency in the warehouse and ultimately end customer satisfaction.
