Intralogistics as a growth pillar

HÖRMANN Industries GmbH has established a new Intralogistics division which unites HÖRMANN Logistik GmbH and its subsidiary HÖRMANN Logistik Polska Sp. z o.o., Klatt Fördertechnik GmbH and HÖRMANN Logistik Systeme GmbH under one roof.

To strategically expand the core competencies and exploit synergy effects for ambitious growth, the Services segment of the HÖRMANN Group is also integrated into the new division. Intralogistics thus forms the fourth pillar of the HÖRMANN Group in addition to Automotive, Communication and Engineering.

At LogiMAT 2022, one of the largest international trade fairs for intralogistics solutions and process management, the three companies of HÖRMANN Intralogistics – HÖRMANN Logistik GmbH, Klatt Fördertechnik GmbH and HÖRMANN Logistik Systeme GmbH – will present themselves together for the first time and showcase their range of services for the automation of intralogistics, from solutions to their own products and software.

The Intralogistics division will be led by the new Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the HÖRMANN Group, Dr. Christian Baur, from 1 July 2022. He has many years of international experience in intralogistics automation, most recently as CEO of Swisslog, one of the world’s leading companies in automated logistics solutions. His core competencies are in the areas of software, robotics and digitalisation. He has not only successfully established growth strategies of software platforms, but also rolled them out globally. »I am looking forward to contributing my experience in the field of automation as CTO of the HÖRMANN Group as well as to establishing the Intralogistics division internationally together with my colleagues and to leading it into the future,« says Dr. Christian Baur. »The markets in both Europe and, for example, America offer above-average growth potential for our solutions, which I would like to tap together with the existing, very experienced team,« he adds.

Strong partners for dynamic and rapid growth

HÖRMANN Logistik GmbH headquartered in Munich and its subsidiary HÖRMANN Logistik Polska Sp. z o.o. implement turnkey material flow systems such as fully automatic high-bay warehouses or AutoStore systems as general contractors. The company’s strength is the integration of a wide variety of trades into a complete system, from project planning and project management to automation technology and its own warehouse management system (HiLIS). The picking robot solution for AutoStore and other applications developed by HÖRMANN Logistik in cooperation with robominds is based on the »HiLIS AS« WMS specially developed for AutoStore and the intelligent robobrain of robominds GmbH. materialfluss, the German trade medium for intralogistics, honoured this concept as Product of the Year 2022 in the category »Warehouse and Order Picking Technology«.

With strong partners, HÖRMANN Logistik, founded more than 35 years ago, moreover offers future-oriented overall solutions for different applications. robominds is the company’s partner for the integration of picking robots into order picking processes. In cooperation with Safelog, HÖRMANN Logistik offers a moving racks system for the storage and order picking of large parts in racks moved by swarm-intelligent automated guided vehicles (AGVs). Together with StrongPoint, the company provides fully comprehensive micro-fulfilment centre solutions for e-grocery applications and other industries. »We will continue to expand such partnerships and thereby further strengthen our network in the Intralogistics division for national and international customers from a wide range of industries,« say Oliver Vujcic and Steffen Dieterich, Managing Directors of HÖRMANN Logistik.

Growth driver of the Intralogistics division

Klatt Fördertechnik GmbH, based in Neumarkt am Wallersee, Austria, expands the portfolio with own products and conveyor systems, which are developed, planned, manufactured and assembled by the company. In its more than 20 years of existence, Klatt Fördertechnik has developed into a renowned supplier of conveyor systems for industry, airports, parcel distribution centres, used cardboard and film transport as well as hospitals. The company also frequently develops special solutions for different plants and is thus able to meet individual customer requirements.

High standards are set, for example, by Klatt Fördertechnik’s toothed belt technology for roller conveyors in pallet conveyor technology. These are characterised by low noise, little maintenance and high availability. A unique selling point in airline luggage transport is Klatt Fördertechnik’s patent-pending system for automatic luggage alignment. It aligns luggage regardless of weight, colour and shape with an alignment rate of almost 100 percent. »Klatt’s innovative, dynamic products will be one of the main future growth drivers of the Intralogistics division,« emphasises Dr. Christian Baur.

Competence centre for light goods

HÖRMANN Logistik Systeme GmbH headquartered in Graz, Austria, is a competence centre for light goods, which focuses on selling, planning and implementing automatic warehouse and conveyor systems in this area. The spectrum ranges from automated conveyor systems for bins and cardboard boxes to order picking solutions to fully automatic small parts warehouses such as mini-load or shuttle systems. The aim is to supplement HÖRMANN Logistik GmbH’s established business in Munich with further solution modules.

Demand in this market segment is increasing continuously: especially e-commerce, demographic change and the growing variety and individuality of parts are resulting in goods being stored and distributed in ever smaller batch sizes. Consequently, there is a trend towards even more dynamic systems. In addition, the city of Graz as a training and technology location allows to build up corresponding capacities to cover customers’ needs in the long term.

»The Intralogistics division pools numerous core competencies and integrated solutions. These competencies are now being expanded by robotics – in line with the motto of the new division: robotic-driven dynamics,« stresses Dr. Christian Baur.
