Swisslog and Lebkuchen-Schmidt GmbH & Co. KG announce new partnership for state-of-the-art distribution centre

Swisslog, a global leader in warehouse automation and logistics solutions, is proud to announce a new partnership with Lebkuchen-Schmidt GmbH & Co. KG. Lebkuchen Schmidt, a traditional manufacturer founded in 1927, is known for producing the famous Nuremberg gingerbread and other fine pastries. With support from Swisslog, Schmidt plans to centralize its logistics at a single location and revolutionize its operations.
The new distribution centre, located in Nuremberg, Germany, is designed to meet the unique logistics requirements of Lebkuchen Schmidt's highly seasonal business. Since a significant portion of annual revenue is realised within three months, the new facility will streamline operations across various sales channels, including full pallet shipments to company-owned stores and worldwide parcel deliveries.
Swisslog was selected as the trusted advisor to develop an optimized solution that meets the customer's budget expectations. The project will feature products from Swisslog's advanced portfolio, including Vectura, ProMove, QuickMove, AutoStore, and SynQ WMS.
The solution includes pallet inbound and receiving processes, a 24,000 pallet high-bay warehouse with Vectura racking systems, ProMove and QuickMove conveyor systems, an AutoStore system with around 17,000 bins, and various value-added services workstations.
The new distribution centre will consolidate multiple storage facilities into one central location, reducing dependency on seasonal labour, enabling faster delivery, and preparing for future growth in e-commerce. Additionally, the new facility will free up space in the existing one, allowing for potential future expansion and ensuring that Lebkuchen Schmidt can continue producing and distributing »Original Nuernberger Lebkuchen« from its current location.

The foundation stone laying ceremony, taking place on 25.06.2025, marks the first construction milestone for the new distribution centre, which is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2027.
