inconsoWMS S controls buffer stock and order picking warehouse at expanding connection element trader

In Ennepetal, Lederer GmbH has started operations in a new buffer stock warehouse in the process of extending and new organization of its logistics. This warehouse supplements an existing warehouse which will be used exclusively for order picking in future. In both areas, Lederer improved efficiency and transparency in its logistics with the help of inconsoWMS S.

The name Lederer stands for almost 40 years of experience with fasteners made of stainless steel, such as screws, nuts, bolts, normed and standardized parts. This includes complex custom-made products or personnel and cost intensive work from mechanical processing to coatings and bolt security through to sorting and packing. Thanks to the high quality, customer orientation and precision work, the company could expand continuously its business volume in the last years. This required a complete new organization of the logistics.

The warehouse already existing with its narrow aisles and ca. 32,000 locations (pallets and shelves) for more than 25,000 different items was redesigned to a pure order picking warehouse. Directly adjacent, a new reserve stock warehouse with ca. 6,700 pallet locations was built. The order picking warehouse was also
supplemented with a manual small parts warehouse with dynamic changeable shelving and ca. 9,200 locations.

The local company Login GmbH was given the task of the planning and the choice of warehouse management system to be used went to inconsoWMS S. inconso AG, the leading IT and consulting company for logistics solutions in Germany, was also contracted as a general contractor to deliver and implement the complete hardware.

Along with servers, clients, forklift truck terminals, handhelds, printers and scanners, radio frequency site survey and W-LAN switches and access ports were included in the delivery scope. With the help of inconsoWMS S, the previous order related and paper based picking processes could be replaced with the Multi-Order-Picking module, a modern RF supported, cross-order picking process. Along with this, a connection to the new consolidation zone was established. It consists of a flow channel for picking containers with integrated container return flow which leads to the shipping area with the pack locations.

Communication via interfaces with the Order Navision system and QS software in the goods receipt area, inconsoWMS S covered the task areas of the entire goods receiving with connected repacking location, order picking, goods issue controlling, shipping preparation and the Kanban processing. In addition, the standard
functionalities such as inventory (permanent, and (near) zero-point) and automatic replenishment control were included.

After an intensive testing phase, the warehouse went online with all the new functionality. While the company is already profiting from a higher logistic quality and plans additional extensions, the system has also been with a high user acceptance.
