Fruit and vegetable wholesaler invests in warehouse automation by KNAPP

22.03.2010

The Helsingborg (Sweden)-based fruit and vegetable wholesaler Ewerman enters into the world of automation as they decided to expand their existing warehouse. The new warehouse will be a fully automated high bay for pallets with fresh fruits and vegetables

Ewerman, which since the early 60s, is known for its wide range and over 1,300 different part numbers, will be able to take their new warehouse outside Helsingborg (Sweden) in operation early spring. Ewerman saw a need to increase its storage capacity due to increased volumes and future expansion plans. In order to meet the rapid turnover of stock KNAPP-Moving and an automated solution that offers advanced capacities was choosen.

"This new automated pallet warehouse is an absolute prerequisite if we are to achieve the planned objectives for future expansion and we look forward to the next step in our development." says Per Unger, CEO Ewerman. Included in the delivery from Moving will be three automatic stacker cranes, racking for 2,280 pallet locations, conveyors for handling pallets, and a WCS system for monitoring and controlling the goods flow.

When Ewerman evaluated the different suppliers there were several factors in favour of KNAPP-Moving, one of the best automatic stacker cranes, a customized WCS, complete service package, locally based which means in close the proximity to the customer, the overall strength of KNAPP and Moving together as a general contractor. Moving has previously delivered Scandinavia's largest and highest automatic pallet warehouse at Clas Ohlson in Insjön with a total of 23 automatic cranes and 116,000 pallet locations.

"KNAPP-Moving is strengthening its already very broad and strong product range. This means that we can pursue our strategic focus to become the market leader in Scandinavia for logistics and picking solutions for light goods as well as pallet handling applications "says Ulf Jansson, President KNAPP-Moving AB.
