»At Home Around the World« – Successful Event for Participants of the WMS Database

22.10.2012

Under the slogan of »At Home Around the World«, Team warehouse logistics invited participating companies to attend the twelfth annual participants meeting on 11 October 2012 at the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML in Dortmund.

More than 60 representatives from national and international companies in the WMS industry used the opportunity to learn about the latest trends and developments in logistics and to discuss them in a workshop. The event included a presentation on the new warehouse logistics service WMS Reference Projects as well as several other presentations by members of the team and representatives from the cooperation partners.

After the keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Michael ten Hompel, Managing Director of Fraunhofer IML, Tim Geißen, Project Manager for internationalization activities for warehouse logistics, presented the latest news from the team. This year an innovative and new workshop called the World Café was debuted: In small groups, participants were given then chance to share their knowledge and discuss new concepts such as »The warehouse in the supply chain«, »The WMS from the cloud«, and »Opportunities and risks in the WMS market«.

»We were really happy with how the event progressed and we were thrilled with the openness of the guests to the new workshop concept and at how actively everyone participated. This experience has motivated us to increase the exchange of information and ideas with the WMS vendors«, concluded Detlef Spee, head of department for intralogistics and –IT planning, at the end of the participant meeting.

Detlef Spee and Tim Geißen started the second half of the presentations by introducing the new service WMS Reference Projects. This was followed by a status report from Italy by Christian Mazzocco, CEO of the Italian cooperation partner Induvation GmbH, and a visionary presentation of the perfect WMS by Dr. Jeroen van den Berg, cooperation partner for the Benelux countries.

The participant meeting has again made a significant contribution to the improvement of the network character of the WMS community and, once again, the feedback has been very positive. The World Café, the informative presentations, and the introduction of the new service WMS Reference Projects were all very well received. At the conclusion of the event, Dr. Jochen Fuhrmann from AEB GmbH, had the following praise »an excellent and open atmosphere«, and he expressed happiness about his new contacts and inspirations as well as the confirmation he got to »continue along his chosen path«. Horst Reichert from S&P Computersysteme GmbH had similar praise for the relaxed atmosphere” and especially the opportunity to »exchange ideas in the World Café«.
