New Questionnaire for the Selection of Warehouse Management Systems on the Online Logistics Platform Warehouse Logistics

12.02.2014

The validation of the warehouse management systems (WMS) listed on warehouse-logistics.com is what guarantees the high quality of the information stored in the database and allows users to perform customized selection processes and detailed comparisons of the systems using continually updated vendor data. Team warehouse logistics has updated and expanded the questionnaire once again for 2014 to reflect the current market situation and address the latest trends.

This annual update is done to ensure that the WMS Database stays up to date in its role as a logistics platform for WMS vendors and users.

The validation of the systems is performed based on the answers provided by the vendors to the comprehensive questionnaire that covers approximately 3000 criteria. The new version of the questionnaire includes a refresh of the graphical interface to support the latest browsers, the addition of cloud-based WMS solutions as a new business model in the WMS market, the inclusion of the latest technologies and trends in databases (such as in-memory databases), and more detailed questions in the human resource planning category.

The topic of value-added services and the question "But a WMS should be able to do that right?“ got the attention of Team warehouse logistics during intense discussions with the participating WMS vendors at the World-Café, which was part of the 2013 participant meeting. Team warehouse logistics noted the comments of the vendors and used them to expand the questions about value-added services in the questionnaire. These new questions will make it possible to analyse more precisely which functionality can be used to invoice the logistics services in the warehouse management systems of the WMS vendors.

Structural changes were also made to the questionnaire to prepare for the VDI Guideline 3601: Warehouse Management Systems. The Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML will introduce this new guideline together with industry experts at LogiMAT 2014 in Stuttgart. “We are really looking forward to the forum at the LogiMAT”, enthused moderator Detlef Spee, head of the Department of Intralogistics and IT Planning at the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML. Detlef Spee launched the warehouse logistics platform in 2000 and has been working with his team since then to continually develop and improve the portal.

The WMS Database on warehouse-logistics.com is the world’s largest portal for comparing the functionality of warehouse management systems. By listing their systems in the database, WMS vendors have the opportunity to present them to the world and have them validated objectively by Team warehouse logistics. After a system has been validated successfully, it receives a validation stamp which is the seal of quality of the industry. WMS users can use the extensive search criteria catalogue, which is based on the database-driven WMS Online Selection, to quickly find the most optimal system for their warehouse. .
