Review of the DLK 2020 - Sustainable Logistics in the focus

The International Supply Chain Conference, which took place from 21 - 23 October and was organised by BVL, the German association which acts as a competence network for logistics, attracted many participants as every year.

As Logistics Reply regularly participates in local events, working groups, and online events of the BVL and the DLK is well known for topics regarding the current logistics trends and possible future technologies, this year’s participation was a must. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the congress was converted to a completely digital format for the first time and transmitted to the participants via live stream.

Once again, we could learn a lot and were able to take a lot of inspiration with us for 2021. Following the motto »Sustainable design - Winning the Next Decade« , the discussion revolved around the sustainable development and designing of the logistics sector. In line with this guiding principle, the topic of CO2 reduction and its effects on the logistics sector was discussed throughout all three days.

The automotive industry, in particular, played an important role in this, because of the development of more environmentally-friendly vehicles. However, opinions are divided on the question of whether the future will be characterised by hydrogen or electric cars.

Particular emphasis was also placed on the fact that sustainability in logistics does not only affect individual companies or people but can only be successfully implemented if all parties pull together. In this context, the topic of Smart Tracking receives a whole new meaning, especially in combination with Visibility Solutions which help to record movements, consolidate data from different partners, and therefore contribute to determining and improving CO2 profiles.

Although there was no exhibition and therefore the networking spirit was somehow missing, the event was a complete success and received positive feedback from the participants.

Thank you BVL for the great event and let's meet again in person next year!
