Spice specialist Hagesüd, based in Hemmingen near Stuttgart, is a supplier of high-grade spice blends and marinades to the meat processing industry as well as to the butcher and catering trades. The company stores its raw materials in a five-aisle automated storage/retrieval system (AS/RS) built back in 1998. This production buffer is serviced by two viapal storage/retrieval machines that are brought to the respective aisles by means of two transfer cars. When the system was initially planned, Hagesüd decided in favor of a solution using a number of different contractors – viastore delivered only the storage/retrieval machines and the transfer devices back then.

This time Hagesüd is counting on a one-stop solution from viastore - an integrated, uniform upgrade to reduce the number of interfaces and thus the complexity of the control system. The two storage/retrieval machines and transfer devices were up dated in mid-2010. Recently the new warehouse management system viad@tWMS 7.2, the material flow control viad@tMFC and the visualization system viad@tVISU were implemented. Furthermore the conveyor control system from Siemens was upgraded from S5 to S7 and the Interbus modules changed to Profibus. The frequency converters of the two shuttle cars were also brought up to the latest state of the art. viastore delivered the complete IT hardware for the viad@t software, including the production server with cold standby and the related peripherals.

Now that the modernization has been concluded it is possible for the viastore hotline to have direct remote access to all viad@t products in the warehouse.
