TOX PRESSOTECHNIK: Complete transparency thanks to the integration of viad@t in SAP

Due to the constantly growing variety of parts, the capacity of TOX PRESSOTECHNIK’s conventional warehouse as well as that of the automatic tray warehouse were almost exhausted. Moreover according to Michael Laub, Production Director of the successful mid-sized company, support for the warehouse management software in the old tray warehouse, which had been built by third-party supplier, was to be discontinued. “Together with the two specialists for efficient automatic storage systems – viastore systems and Hänel Büro- und Lagersysteme – we therefore installed a solution that saves precious space and allows for flexible reaction to future requirements.”

In the first step, the specialists replaced the manually operated warehouse with three Hänel Lean-Lift storage systems. Due to the high total load of up to 60 tons per system, these were installed in the basement. The retrieval openings are found at ground floor level, so this means that the 14 meter high storage systems can utilize the entire height of both the basement and the warehouse hall. In this way, the total storage area of previously around 450 square meters was reduced to merely 21 square meters of floor space needed to set up the Lean-Lift storage systems, so that valuable space was freed up.

Future-oriented storage systems

viastore integrated the Lean-Lifts into the warehouse management system viad@t newly introduced at TOX. This expandable and flexible software is integrated into SAP ERP using a standard interface. The “goods-to-man” order picking system at the Lean- Lift has superseded the time-consuming “man-to-goods” system previously used in the conventional warehouse. This has led to a significant reduction in order-picking errors. In conjunction with the Hänel Lean-Lifts, the new WMS provides for a high degree of inventory transparency plus fast and reliable access to the stored parts.

“Both the modular Lean-Lifts from Hänel and the warehouse management system from viastore can be expanded at any time,” explains Laub. “In addition, viastore systems also integrated our tray warehouse into viad@t. With this overall solution, we will be able to respond flexibly to changing business conditions in the future. Furthermore, the dependability and durability of the components plus a genuine 24-hour service on more than 300 days a year were crucial criteria for us.”

The height-optimized storage strategy in the vertical storage carousels from Hänel safeguards streamlined and efficient use of the storage space at TOX PRESSOTECHNIK. TOX employees can use the systems flexibly and process orders rapidly. The integration of viad@t into SAP ensures complete transparency.

The modular technology from viastore and Hänel also enables faster goods delivery, improved inventory reliability, efficient order picking with a minimum of errors and hence shorter lead times. Moreover viad@tWMS also provides for sustainable management of the high-bay tray warehouse.
